Kid potter heads for record books
Watch out Mark Williams, Matthew Stevens and the rest of the Welsh snooker elite, there's a new kid in town.
The up-and-coming player is nine years old and poised to enter the record books as the youngest player to make a century break. Last weekend Michael White from Neath made a break of 105 at his local snooker club, which has been put forward to the Guinness Book of Records. "I was over the moon when I made it, I still can't believe it," he said. "I was shaking when I was getting close to the hundred." Michael eventually missed a pink into the middle but says that he didn't mind by then as he already had the century break. It surely won't be too long before Michael makes another century, as he's already had breaks of 86, 61, 63 and 68 since last Saturday. Not bad for someone whose eyeline is level with the table. The manager of the Empire Snooker Club, Viv Rosser, was one of eight witnesses to the prodigy's achievement. "It was just unbelievable," Rosser said. "It'll ruin a lot of players' careers when they hear about this. "He's got a cheek doing it but it's brilliant. The mind boggles at how good he is going to be. Ronnie O'Sullivan made his first century break at 10 and look where he is now." |
