Hamilton took just a few minutes to win the final session
|
Anthony Hamilton won the only frame of an unscheduled third session to finally knock out David Gray. Trailing 4-2 from Saturday, Hamilton came into form in the second session to emerge with a 9-8 advantage.
Gray lost seven out eight frames on Sunday afternoon, managing to stay alive by taking the last two to force play in the evening.
But Hamilton immediately took command, and a break of 72 was enough to seal victory for the qualifier.
Soon after leaving the arena, Hamilton admitted the match had been a struggle.
"It tested my powers of concentration and patience, but you've got to dig in," he said.
"You have to swap the pressure around - if you start coming back at a player it puts the pressure on them.
"A place in the top 16 was possibly on the line, so it was too important to get the hump about it."
