Ebdon completes crushing Hann win
By Phil Harlow
BBC Sport at The Crucible

Ebdon was in an unassailable position after the first session
Peter Ebdon wasted little time in clinching the two frames he needed to send Quinten Hann out of the tournament after wrapping up a 10-2 win.

Ebdon enjoyed the luxury of an enormous 8-1 first-session lead after Hann's nightmare opening session.

Hann salvaged a little extra respectability by winning the first frame of the second session, but Ebdon took the next to close in on victory.

An Ebdon clearance in the 12th finally ended Hann's unhappy Crucible trip.

It later emerged that Hann - who admitted he had turned up with a hangover - had used a friend's cue.

A bizarre set of circumstances after the recent China Open led to the Australian arriving in Sheffield without a vital piece of the cue.

Ebdon admitted his victory had left him scratching his head.

"It was lovely to win and get your first match out of the way, but it was very strange," said Ebdon.

Quentin Hann
"You have to prepare for anything against Quentin, you're never quite sure what you're going to get.

"I expected a tough match but you've got to feel sorry for him because you can't compete with someone else's cue. Credit to him, he didn't throw the towel in."

Hann said he had been fighting an uphill battle after the late realisation he would not be able to play with his usual cue.

"I played quite well, considering - I only got two frames but I could have got a lot more than that," said Hann.

"But I didn't miss one shot that I would blame on the cue.

"I thought about pulling out, but if I did that then Peter would go through to the second round without having played a match and that would be unfair."
