Murphy barely gave Ebdon a look-in
|
Shaun Murphy stormed into his first World Championship final with a 17-12 defeat of 2002 champion Peter Ebdon. With the match balanced at 12-12 going into the final session, the English qualifier quickly saw off Ebdon by winning the first five frames.
Murphy won frame 25 with a break of 62 and then opened up a three-frame gap with a run of 72 in frame 27.
He then hit a wonderful break of 123 to lead 16-12 before wrapping up victory with a break of 60.
Ebdon, who ended Ronnie O'Sullivan's hopes in the last eight, had started the match well, making two century breaks on his way to a 6-2 lead.
But Murphy hit back brilliantly, his break of 132 in the last frame on Friday ensuring the match went into the final session all square at 12-12.
Ebdon was a virtual spectator in the final session as Murphy secured a final against Ian McCulloch or Matthew Stevens.
