Seven-time champion Stephen Hendry wasted little time in booking his place in the second round of the Embassy World Championship.

Hendry, leading 6-3 overnight, took four frames out of five on Monday to register a 10-4 win over English teenager Shaun Murphy.

Murphy had given himself hope by taking the final two frames of Sunday's session but Hendry was in no mood for a battle and a break of 82 in the 11th frame confirmed his superiority as he raced into a 9-3 lead.

Hendry will face Alan McManus or Anthony Davies in the second round on the way to a possible semi-final meeting with defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan.

After the match, Hendry had a word of warning for Murphy after the teenager predicted he himself would become the best snooker player in the world one day.

"He's got a lot of talent and there's no doubt about it. Shaun strikes the ball very well and pots the long shots," said the seven-time world champion.

"It's all well and good setting yourself high ambitions, but it's going to be tough to reach the top. You have to set realistic ambitions first and then progress from there.

"You need more than just talent. You just have to look at Jimmy White, who's never won the a world championship and he's got as much talent as anybody.

"Admittedly, when I first came on the scene I said I would become world champion by the age of 21 and I did it. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with saying that, but it's very tough and you have to work very hard."
