Summary Table: Unemployment

Unemployment statistics is probably one of the most closely monitored indicators of the labour market.

Persons are counted as unemployed, if they are not working, but are actively looking and available for work.

The unemployment rate refers to the unemployed as a percentage of the labour force (also known as the economically active population).

The seasonally adjusted unemployment figures are subject to annual revisions when the latest set of seasonal factors is updated, taking into account observations for the latest available year.
  • Annual figures are the simple averages of the non-seasonally adjusted unemployment figures obtained at quarterly intervals.
