Secretariat support for the Kingdom of Eswatini
Elections support
The Commonwealth Human Rights Unit helped the Eswatini Commission on Human Rights and Public Administration build skills to observe and report on elections. The Commission monitored elections in eSwatini in August 2018.
Anti-corruption
The Secretariat helped staff at Eswatini’s Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences build skills to fight corruption. Areas covered included prevention, investigation, prosecution and education.
In May 2017 and again in 2018, the Commonwealth helped eSwatini share understanding and experiences of successful projects with other anti-corruption agencies in the Africa region.
Public institutions
The Secretariat gave the Eswatini government advice on public finance and managing risks. It made progress on transparency, fairness and value for money when buying goods and services.
Natural resources
The Secretariat helped Eswatini reform its mining and petroleum sector. It gave advice on licences for processing and refining, and increasing government income from the sector. It also helped with laws and regulations to put the Mines and Minerals Act 2011 into operation.
Climate change
In February 2018, the Secretariat helped Eswatini learn to use its Climate Finance Access Hub.
Connectivity Agenda
Eswatini is a member of the Regulatory Connectivity cluster of the Commonwealth Connectivity Agenda. The Connectivity Agenda is a platform for countries to exchange best practices and experiences to trade and investment and undertake domestic reform.
