Veins of Leaves Often veins follow the shape of the leaf. They can curve along the leaf following the margin, or they can break the margin and cause the leaf edges to end in fine points, bristles, or spines. The veins can provide interesting textures to the leaf surfaces. This helps in describing the plant and in enjoying its beauty. As with many of the leaf characteristics, leaf veins can display muliple characteristics such as having both impressed and reticulate veins.
