Former world champion Murphy, 32, claimed the tables were “very poor” and had made he and Graeme Dott “silly” after a 5-3 loss to the Scot in China.

Murphy said: “It is just so disappointing. We pay our entry fees, I know you have to adjust as a professional but there must be a time where it is unreasonable to say ‘adjust to that’. They were very poor.”

Jason Ferguson, chairman of the WPBSA, said: “Working with our manufacturers, we will continue to monitor and test all products as the playing surface is extremely high on our agenda.

“We know we have the finest equipment but moisture in the air, air conditioning and temperature changes all play a part in a precision sport.”
