Best Actor to CHOI Min-sik, Best Actress to IM Soo-jung and Best Director goes to CHUNG Ji-young

 

 

 

 

Director KIM Ki-duk’s Pieta won the Best Picture Award at the 33rd Blue Dragon Awards held on November 30th at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts. On winning the award, director KIM commented, “the shooting time period was ten days, the budget was 100 million won and the number of people in the production staff was 25. I was able to complete the film, not because of my own abilities, but thanks to my production staff and the brilliance of my actors.” He went on to say, “this film is about a capitalist society ruled by money. I hope society will soon be centered around its people and not money.”

 

The heroine of the film, CHO Min-su, who went up to the stage with director KIM said, “I was a bit disappointed to be honest for not getting the Best Actress Award but it’s great that the film got the Best Picture Award. Thanks to Pieta, I’ve had many opportunities to wear lovely dresses and I’m happy that the film got the Best Picture, just like in Venice”.

 

Best Actor went to CHOI Min-sik for Nameless Gangster: Rule of Time, Best Actress was given to IM Soo-jung for her part in All About My Wife, Best Male Newcomer went to CHO Jung-suk of Architecture 101 and Best Female Newcomer was given to KIM Go-eun for Eungyo. Best Supporting Actor went to RYU Seung-ryong from All About My Wife and Best Supporting Actress to Mun Jung-hee of Deranged. This year’s Best Director Award was given to CHUNG Ji-young of Unbowed and the Best Newcomer Director Award went to KIM Hong-seong of Traffickers. The Audience Award went to The Thieves and the Popular Star Awards went to HA Jung-woo, KIM Su-hyun, KONG Hyo-jin and BAE Su-ji. Masquerade which took 15 awards at the Grand Bell Awards only received one Blue Dragon for Best Art Direction.
