Jodi Arias Trial Update: Lawyer Reveals Femme Fatale Was Terrified During Sentencing

Jodi Arias may have put on a brave face in the court room when she pleaded for death on Monday but her lawyer has revealed her client was actually fearful of the death penalty.

According to ABC News, Jennifer Willmot in an interview revealed that Arias was afraid and did not want the death penalty. She said would defend Arias if she had to do it all over again as defending is an important job to do. Wilmot said that her client is coping and her hope is to visit and hug her mother which she hasn't been able to do for seven years.

"It's my firm belief that death would bring me untold peace and freedom. If I die today, I would be free and I would be at peace. For years, that's exactly what I wanted. But I have to fight for my life just like I did on June 4, 2008 because I realize how selfish it would be for me to escape accountability for this mess that I created," Arias had said in the courtroom.

Arias was sentenced to life without parole for the brutal murder of her boyfriend Alexander Travis in 2008. Two juries could not reach a unanimous decision on whether Arias should be sentenced to death. So she was sentenced to life without parole.

NBC News reported Arias reported to an Arizona prison west of Phoenix where she will be incarcerated pending an appeal of her conviction.
