Never has it been more important to have a Congressman with the expertise and experience that Nick Rahall brings to the job of U.S. Representative from West Virginia’s Third District.  Committed to always putting West Virginia First, Nick Rahall will continue to standup to the President, EPA and others who are trying to lessen the importance of Coal in our nation’s future and cause jobs to flee our state.

He is recognized nationally for his fight on behalf of coal miners and their jobs.

He led the effort to pass tougher safety requirements to prevent future mining disasters, drastically improve the underground working conditions for miners and protect the pensions and benefits of retired miners. In recognition of his efforts, the United Mine Workers made Nick Rahall an honorary member.

Protecting veterans and our military is a priority for Nick Rahall. He has worked to improve veteran’s benefits and healthcare, including a new outpatient facility for veterans near Lewisburg. Congressman Rahall has been a leader in expanding military benefits and pushed through legislation adding the National Guard to the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The National Guard honored him with the Truman Award, which is the highest honor given to individuals.

Nick Rahall has been a tireless advocate for affordable, accessible healthcare and a powerful voice for West Virginia Seniors. He has fought to preserve Social Security and continues to oppose those who want to cut Social Security benefits and privatize Medicare.

As the Senior Democrat on the House Transportation Committee, Nick Rahall has used his position to help bring highway improvements and new jobs to West Virginia. His leadership helped bring home funding for numerous highway projects that help promote tourism industry in the state…projects that include the King Coal Highway, Coalfields Expressway, and the upgrade of Route 10. He created the Southern West Virginia Environmental Infrastructure Program to bring safe drinking water and modern wastewater programs to communities throughout the state.

Nick Rahall continues to fight to promote West Virginia values and protect our state’s unique heritage and unsurpassed natural resources.  His efforts have helped propel the tremendous growth of the Tourism Industry in West Virginia and establish the New River Gorge National River, Gauley River National Recreation Area, and national wilderness designations in the Monongahela National Forest.

As our Congressman, Nick Rahall is a champion of the values West Virginians cherish and hold dear. He is married to Melinda Ross of Ashland, Kentucky and has three children: Rebecca, Nick Joe III and Suzanne Nicole Brown. He is the proud grandfather of Madison Kaylee.

He is a 33rd Degree Mason and life member of the National Rifle Association, Elks and Moose.
