WARWICK, R.I. -- Norwegian Air will start transatlantic service from T.F. Green Airport this summer, a company spokesman told The Providence Journal by email Tuesday morning.

"Which transatlantic routes I cannot comment on just yet," spokesman Anders Lindström told The Journal.

Industry speculation has focused on service between New England and Ireland.

Lindström said the company would officially announce the service in a few weeks, including which destinations will be served, exactly when the service will start, how often flights will serve Green and how much tickets will cost.

In an interview published Thursday in the Seattle Times, the chief executive of Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA, the airline's formal name, floated the possibility of $69 one-way introductory fares. CEO Bjørn Kjos told the Times that Norwegian would fly Boeing 737 MAX aircraft from Green and Stewart International, north of New York city, to European cities like Dublin and Cork in Ireland or Edinburgh in Scotland.

A spokeswoman for Green Airport declined to comment on Norwegian's plans, deferring questions to Lindström.
