Longgang COCO Park opens its doors

LONGGANG COCO Park, the largest and newest shopping mall in Longgang District, opened Saturday.

The shopping mall is developed by Galaxy Group and the second shopping mall in Shenzhen under the COCO Park brand. The first COCO Park was built seven years ago in Futian District and has become one of the most popular shopping malls in the city.

The Longgang COCO Park is even larger than the Futian COCO Park. It has eight floors — including four underground — and a total floor area of 82,000 square meters. It was built for about 1 billion yuan (US$160 million), much more than the Futian COCO Park, which cost about 700 million yuan to build.

Longgang COCO Park is home to well-known commercial brands including Sam’s Club and Bona Cineplex, and to fashion brands including H&M and UNIQLO. The mall’s Sam’s Club is the second one in Shenzhen.

“Longgang COCO Park is the largest and most luxurious shopping mall ever built in Longgang,” Longgang District senior official Xiong Xiaoping said at Saturday’s opening ceremony.

All restaurants at Longgang COCO Park, apart from Starbucks, KFC and Pizza Hut, are offering 50-percent discounts through Wednesday.

The shopping mall is to offer various gifts to customers from Thursday through Sept. 20, and will offer free parking through Dec. 31.

Shenzhen has seen an explosion in local shopping malls in recent years. More than 20 can be found across the city and more are on the way.

Baoneng All City, expected to open Nov. 18 at Shenzhen Bay in Nanshan District, will have a total floor area of 110,000 square meters, the first GAP store in Shenzhen and the first MONKI store in China.

Haiya Mega Mall, expected to open at the end of this year in Bao’an District, will have a total floor area of nearly 300,000 square meters. It’s being built for about 3.6 billion yuan and is expected to feature big-brand stores, theme malls, a pedestrian street, water landscapes, a tourist promenade, an array of Chinese and Western restaurants, a bar street and a sports center.

Tao Muming, general manager of Galaxy Group Commercial Real Estate, said Longgang COCO Park received more than 30,000 customers daily during a trial opening in August, and the highest single-day sales at the mall’s Sam’s Club reached nearly 5 million yuan.

“The figures have proven the popularity of Longgang COCO Park,” he said.
