Gostisbehere, Bodie, Carr earn spots on ECAC Hockey All-League Teams

Sophomore defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere earned ECAC Hockey second team honors.
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – Sophomore defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere (second team), junior defenseman Mat Bodie (third team) and junior forward Daniel Carr (third team) were each voted onto ECAC Hockey All-Star Teams, as voted by the league coaches. The announcement was made at the ECAC Hockey Awards Ceremony at the Trump Plaza Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ.

Junior goaltender Troy Grosenick was also named a finalist for ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year and senior defenseman Greg Coburn was announced as a finalist for Best Defensive Defenseman.

Second Team Defenseman
Sophomore defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere

Gostisbehere is in the midst of his best campaign at Union, establishing a career high with 24 points (seven goals, 17 assists). In ECAC Hockey play, Gostisbehere led all Union defensemen and finished third in the league with 18 points (three goals, 15 assists). His assists total was best among all ECAC Hockey defensemen in league play. The Margate, Florida native matched his own school record for assists in an ECAC Hockey contest with four in a 7-3 win over RPI on Nov. 3. On March 16, Gostisbehere notched the game-winning goal in a 5-2 win over Dartmouth in Game 2 of the ECAC Quarterfinals. Currently Gostisbehere is among the nation's best in scoring by defenseman, averaging 0.75 points per game (11th NCAA). 


Third Team Defenseman
Junior defenseman Mat Bodie
Despite missing five games early in the season due to a broken wrist, junior captain Mat Bodie still put up impressive numbers with 24 points (six goals, 18 assists) in 31 games, finishing fourth among ECAC Hockey defensemen in scoring. The East St. Paul, Manitoba native is currently sixth in the nation in scoring by defenseman with an average of 0.77 points per game. On Feb. 15, with an assist in a 4-2 win against Yale, Bodie established a new Union career points record by a defenseman in the Division I era, breaking the record previously held by Lane Caffaro '09. Bodie currently has 85 points (20 goals, 65 assists) for his career.


Third Team Forward
Junior forward Daniel Carr
Carr led all Union skaters with 19 points (nine goals, 10 assists) in 22 ECAC Hockey contests, finishing tied for ninth overall in league scoring. He has 28 points (14 goals, 14 assists) overall on the season, including a team-leading six power play goals. The Sherwood Park, Alberta native became the 10th member of the Union College Century Club (100 points) in the Division 1 era with two assists in a 4-0 win over Clarkson on March 2. Carr also became Union's all-time leader with 27 power play goals, breaking the school record held by Jordan Webb '05 with a power play goal in a 7-3 win over RPI on Nov. 3. 

Union, the No. 4 seed in the ECAC Hockey Tournament, will take on No. 3 seed Yale at 7:30 p.m. in the semifinals tomorrow night at Boardwalk Hall.
