The Liberal Democrats lost their only seat in Wales in an election which saw Labour snatch back major seats from the Conservatives.

In total the Tories lost three seats in Wales, taking their tally to eight, as Theresa May's decision to call a snap election backfired and resulted in a hung parliament.

Labour took 28 of the 40 seats on offer in Wales, gaining three, while Plaid ended the night on four seats, up one.

Below are all 40 of Wales' MPs following the completion of counting.

Aberavon: Stephen Kinnock (Labour)

Mr Kinnock retained the seat which he first took in 2015. Before joining the political fray he previously held various senior positions with the British Council. He is the son of Lord Kinnock and is married to Helle Thorning Schmidt, the former Danish Prime Minister, with whom he has two daughters.

Aberconwy: Guto Bebb (Conservative)

The Wales Office Minister held the seat he was first elected to in 2010. He was born and brought up in north Wales and is a graduate of the University of Wales in Aberystwyth. He is married to wife Esyllt and has five children.

Alyn & Deeside: Mark Tami (Labour)

He has been a Member of Parliament for Alyn and Deeside since 2001. The Swansea University history graduate lives in Llanfynydd with his wife Sally and two children Max and Oscar. Mark is a fan of football, cricket, antiques, fishing and clay pigeon shooting.

Arfon: Hywel Williams (Plaid Cymru)

Pwllheli-born Mr Williams took a psychology degree before qualifying as a social worker. The 64-year-old father-of-five was first elected at the 2001 general election to the Caernarfon constituency, retaining the seat in 2005. He won the new Arfon seat in 2010, following boundary changes, and continues to hold the seat.

Blaenau Gwent: Nick Smith (Labour)

He has been the MP for the constituency since 2010, before which he was a councillor in the London Borough of Camden. Mr Smith lives in Nantyglo and enjoys hiking, rugby and reading in his spare time.

Brecon & Radnorshire: Chris Davies (Conservative)

Born in the Swansea Valley, the former Powys county councillor retained the seat he took two years ago. Before entering politics he worked as a rural auctioneer and estate agent for 20 years. He lives with his wife Liz and young children in Glasbury-on-Wye.

Madeleine Moon has been a Member of Parliament for Bridgend since 2005 and was previously the mayor of Porthcawl. She took the seat for Labour for a fourth time. She worked in health and social care before entering politics.

A former lecturer, Wayne David has been member of parliament for Caerphilly since 2001. He has previously held roles in the Wales Office and became Ed Miliband's Parliamentary Private Secretary in October 2013 when Mr Miliband was Labour leader. He also previously spent 10 years as a Member of the European Parliament for South Wales.

Cardiff Central: Jo Stevens (Labour)

The mother of two teenage sons is a qualified solicitor and was a director of Thompsons Solicitors, a UK-wide law firm, when she ousted former Lib Dem MP Jenny Willott in 2015. The Manchester University graduate lives in Roath and lists the arts, good books, and real ale among her hobbies.

Cardiff North: Anna McMorrin (Labour)

A former Welsh Government adviser, Ms McMorrin grew up near Brecon and went on to study at Cardiff University. A mother to two teenage daughters, she took the seat from the Conservatives with a majority of more than 4,000.

Cardiff South & Penarth: Stephen Doughty (Labour Co-op)

Mr Doughty began his political career in 2012, when he was elected in a by-election. Prior to that he had been working in Denmark. A Cardiff City fan and trade union member, he lives in Splott and grew up in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

Cardiff West: Kevin Brennan (Labour)

The keen music fan and former teacher successfully held onto his seat, which he has held since 2001 when he succeeded Rhodri Morgan. He was born in Cwmbran and went to school in Pontypool before attending Oxford University. Kevin lives in his constituency and is married with a daughter.

Carmarthen East and Dinefwr: Jonathan Edwards (Plaid Cymru)

Mr Edwards, who was first elected in 2010, was born and rasied in the mining village of Capel Hendre near Ammanford. He attended Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman and Ysgol Gyfun Maes yr Yrfa before graduating in History and Politics at the University of Wales Aberystwyth. He supports Swansea City and the Scarlets.

Carmarthen West and Pembrokeshire South: Simon Hart (Conservative)

The 52-year-old was chief executive of the Countryside Alliance before he was first elected in 2010. He previously worked as a chartered surveyor in Carmarthen and Haverfordwest and served with the Territorial Army for seven years. He lives in Llanmill near Narberth with his wife and two children.

Ceredigion: Ben Lake (Plaid Cymru)

The 24-year-old, from Lampeter, works in the National Assembly. He took the seat, which Plaid lost to the Lib Dems in 2005, from Mark Williams after two recounts.

Clwyd South: Susan Elan Jones (Labour)

First elected in 2010, she spent 15 years working for charities before entering the Commons She attended Ponciau, Grango and Ruabon schools before going on to the universities of Bristol and Cardiff. After graduating from university she also taught English in Japan.

Clwyd West: David Jones (Conservative)

The former Welsh Secretary was born in London but moved to North Wales early in his childhood. He studied law at University College London and the College of Law in Chester. A former AM, Liverpool fan Mr Jones is married to former nurse Sara and the couple have two sons.

Cynon Valley: Ann Clwyd (Labour)

The 80-year-old, a former journalist, has held the seat since 1984 and has held posts as shadow Welsh secretary and shadow minister for overseas development during her lengthy political career. She was one of just 13 MPs to vote against triggering this election.

Delyn - David Hanson (Labour)

Originally from Liverpool, the father of four has been a shadow police and justice minister and also worked as a shadow treasury minister. He has held the seat since 1992.

Dwyfor Meirionnydd - Liz Saville Roberts (Plaid Cymru)

When she took the seat in 2015 she became Plaid's first ever female MP. Originally from Eltham, London, the mother of two moved to Wales aged 18 when she went to Aberystwyth University to study languages where she began to learn Welsh.

Gower - Tonia Antoniazzi (Labour)

Ms Antoniazzi won back the seat for Labour after it swung to the Tories by a majority of just 27 votes two years ago. She overturned that defeat and secured the seat with a majority of more than 3,000. A single mother, she has worked as the head of modern foreign languages in a Llanelli school.

Islwyn - Chris Evans (Labour)

Brought up in the Rhondda valleys, Mr Evans was first elected in 2010. He graduated with a history degree from Trinity College, Carmarthen. Before being elected to Parliament he worked as a bookmaker, in a bank, and as a trade union official. He also worked as a parliamentary researcher to former Islwyn MP Don Touhig for four years.

Llanelli - Nia Griffith (Labour)

The former shadow Welsh secretary has represented Llanelli since her election in 2005. She was born in Ireland but her family comes from a mining village near Neath. She trained to be a teacher at the University of Wales in Bangor.

Merthyr Tydfil & Rhymney - Gerald Jones (Labour)

The former Caerphilly council leader, who was first elected two years ago, was born and raised in the village of Phillipstown in New Tredegar. He joined the Labour party in 1988 and has served as a shadow defence minister.

Monmouth - David Davies (Conservative)

An MP since 2005, London-born Mr Davies was educated at Bassaleg School in Newport. A varied career before a life in politics saw him work as a nightclub promoter and tobacco picker in Australia as well as a continental lorry driver. He is married to Aliz and the couple have three children.

The former AM retained the seat he has held since May 2010. Brought up on a farm in Welshpool, he went to Aberystwyth University when he was 50 to take a politics course and gain a diploma in International Law and Politics.

The former Bridgend councillor was selected to succeed Labour candidate Peter Hain in 2014. She has previously worked for Squash Wales as a development officer and a national coach.

Newport East - Jessica Morden (Labour)

First elected in 2005, she was brought up in Cwmbran and educated at Croesyceiliog School before reading history at the University of Birmingham.

The 82-year-old has been an MP since 1987. Last year, when many members of the Shadow Cabinet abandoned Jeremy Corbyn, he was drafted in as shadow secretary of state for Wales.

Ogmore - Chris Elmore (Labour)

A former candidate in the Vale of Glamorgan, Mr Elmore was elected in a by-election just a year ago when Huw Irranca-Davies became an AM. The Newport-born former trainee butcher has served as an Opposition whip since October.

Pontypridd - Owen Smith (Labour)

First elected in 2010, the 47-year-old mounted an unsuccessful bid for the Labour leadership last year. He worked for 10 years on network radio and television for the BBC, including the flagship BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

Preseli Pembrokeshire - Stephen Crabb (Conservative)

Stephen Crabb became Welsh Secretary during 2014 ahead of the Scottish independence referendum. Mr Crabb, who is married to Beatrice and has two young children, has held onto the Preseli Pembrokeshire seat since 2005.

Rhondda - Chris Bryant (Labour)

Chris Bryant was born in Cardiff in 1962 and his upbringing was split between living in the Welsh capital, Spain, and Cheltenham. He read English at Mansfield College, Oxford, before being ordained in the Church of England in 1986. In 1991 he left the church to work for Labour, having joined the party in 1986, and was elected to Rhondda in 2001. He's best known beyond Wales for his high-profile stance on hacking by newspaper journalists, having been a victim of the practice. He has served as shadow minister for culture, media and sport.

Swansea East - Carolyn Harris (Labour)

A former barmaid and dinner lady, Ms Harris became a student and joined the Labour party aged 34 and that set her on a path to Parliament.

She joined the Commons in 2015 and she has won nationwide attention for her campaign to scrap council charges for children’s funerals.

Swansea West - Geraint Davies (Labour)

An Oxford University graduate, he lives in Swansea and has been an MP for the city since 2010. Prior to that he was MP for Croydon Central between 1997 and 2005.

Torfaen - Nick Thomas-Symonds (Labour)

The qualified barrister, who has written biographies of Clement Attlee and Aneurin Bevan and lives in north Torfaen, was brought up in Blaenavon. He studied at Oxford before working as a politics lecturer and tutor there until he was elected in 2015. He lives in Abersychan with his wife Rebecca and daughters Matilda and Florence.

Vale of Clwyd - Chris Ruane (Labour)

A former primary school teacher and deputy head, the 58-year-old held this seat between 1997 and 2015 before being unseated by the Conservatives. But he has won the seat back and enjoyed a majority of more than 2,000.
