First lady Michelle Obama will never run for president, her husband said Thursday.

During a town-hall meeting a high school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a man who identified himself as the father of a Secret Service agent asked the president, “Since you can’t run again for another term, is there any way that we as a group can talk the first lady into running?”

The audience responded with loud cheering and a standing ovation. But President Obama immediately answered, “No.”

“There are three things that are certain in life: death, taxes, and Michelle is not running for president,” Mr. Obama said. “That I can tell you.”

The president said he’s proud of the work his wife has done “around reducing childhood obesity, [and] the work that she and Jill Biden have done on military families.”

“I am certain she’s going to be really active as a [former] first lady,” he said. “Unlike me, she looks young.”
