I watched this absolutely UH-mazinggg movie a couple months back called ‘War Room’. Tony and Elizabeth seem to have everything in check.
They’ve got a massive house, fantastic jobs and a really cute kid. However, it’s quickly made clear that things aren’t as perfect as they seem. With her marriage on the rocks, Elizabeth meets Miss Clara, a sweet old lady with a fighting spirit. She encourages Elizabeth to fight hard for her family by using prayer as her primary weapon.
I loved the film ‘War-Room’ for many reasons; it was funny, relatable and at times heartbreaking. However, the lesson that stood out for me was the power of prayer.
In the movie, Elizabeth turns her wardrobe into a ‘war room.’ It’s in here that she spends hours pouring her heart out to God and she uses a wall to put up prayers and key Bible passages.
I loved the idea of having a ‘prayer wall’ and was inspired to create something similar. Here are a few simple tips on creating your own prayer wall.
- Choose a wall in a private place
Prayers can often be very personal and so you might not want them to be on show. Have your prayer wall in a place that’s a bit private, but still easily accessible for you. If you don’t have a wall to use, you may want to create a prayer journal or even a prayer board.
- For every prayer, find a Bible verse that links
This step is really important as the Bible is a way in which God speaks directly to us. Therefore, if we’re praying to God about particular issues, it’s important to know some of the things that He’s already said regarding them. If you’re struggling to find a Bible verse that ties into the situation you’re praying about, you can use the index in your Bible or even Google.
- Be yourself
Just like your spoken prayers, written prayers are a conversation between you and God. Be honest, open and talk to God like you would any friend. There’s no special formula for writing your prayers down. You many even want to include photos or pictures that help you express what you want to say. It’s your unique prayer wall, so make it your own!
- Record answered prayers
This part of having a prayer wall has to be my favourite. I have a checklist where I tick off of every prayer on my wall that’s been answered. It’s an incredible way of seeing exactly how God is working and can be super encouraging .God does answer prayers!

Hi – I edit the newsletter for Strath and Sleat Church of Scotland on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. https://www.sschurch.co.uk/ Our church recently showed War Room and I wondered if you’d let me reproduce your suggestions for a prayer wall in our newsletter? Fully credited of course. If possible, please let me know as soon as possible as I’m working on the newsletter now. Thanks and God bless your good work!
Hi Alison – this is Esther 🙂 I received an email with your comment. Of course! Feel free to use whatever you need.
Lord Jesus Christ.
Every morning I stop
And pray to the Lord
Jesus Christ every day
And he’s my Lord and my Savior in life
And he’s inside my heart day and night
And just listen to him beat
He’s smiling away beating
Inside my heart every day
And I love the Lord Jesus Christ
So much in life
And he’s forever inside my heart and
It’s where he’ll stay forever
Beating inside my heart every day.
This is so beautiful and peaceful.
i have a question about your prayer wall. although i know it is deeply personal and probably anyone who has one does it differently…..all that said, do you pray for the things that you put on there individually. each day? or so you put the request on there and give it to the Lord? i’m there are prayers on there for others and yourself that are continuing until God answers the prayer but i wondered how you do yours.
I am so glad I found this website. I was feeling down this morning and I was looking for some motivation and came to Girls Got Faith because I follow you on Instagram. I was scrolling through different posts then I came across this one. I just finished watching War Room, that film is POWERFUL!! I don’t have a room but this post and the film has encouraged me to start somewhere. Thank you x
I’m so glad that you were encouraged by this post Kadie! I believe that wherever you choose to make a start, even if it’s just writing down your prayers in a notebook, God will really begin to show you how powerful prayer really is! God bless you sis x
