God I love a good skort! Oh, you read right. Skort. S. K. O. R. T. Skort! The mini skirt, the skort's crotchless cousin, may be considered by many to be the gold standard in sexy leg-baring attire, but how sexy is it to spend the whole night making sure you don't flash the person sitting across from you? Skorts combine the sexiness of the shortest micro-mini with the high-kicking practicality of a short. They never ride up, they never expose you, and yet they can be a good 3-4 inches shorter than even the most daring mini skirts.
Skorts look amazing in the warmer months with bare legs, but they are just as sexy when worn with a pair of semi-sheer tights or thigh-high socks and boots. Style them with an equally tiny top and a pair of high-heels for a look that will have parents covering their children's eyes and old ladies clutching their pearls as you walk down the street, or throw on a big comfy sweater and a pair of flat high-top sneakers for a look that is as casual and laid back as it is sexy and provocative.
Another great thing about skorts — they're flattering, and not just on stick thin models. The way they flare out slightly on the sides, like the world's most impossibly tiny A-line skirt, makes them much more flattering than your basic pair of hip-hugging micro shorts, and the asymmetrical hem lines (when present) create an optical illusion over the thighs, making them appear longer and leaner. Plus the shorts in back hug your but in a way that an A-Line skirt never could making it look pert and perky and super cute.
Of course, skorts are not for everyone. If exposing your legs is just NOT your thing, you need to stay as far away from skorts as possible. Don't make the mistake of looking for a longer style. There's a dark side to skorts: as they grow longer, they transform from sexy little nothings into hideous mom shorts — they take on pleats and the kind of starchy bagginess that causes ghost erections (ed. note: this means the outward protrusion of crotch fabric) every time you sit down. Don't become a victim of a long skort. Embrace the tininess. Let yourself go and fall in love with the skort. Skorts for all! Viva la skort!
