I’m working on bobangi or bangi, this is a language spoken in Democratic republic of the Congo. I found this information here.

Welcome to my website on Bobangi, This site is developed for a class project in African Languages at Lehman College; it will be completed on May 28th, 2013. Until then, it is still in the process of being developed.

Bobangi

  •  Bobangi or bangi is a language spoken in central Africa. I’m focusing on the Democratic Republic of Congo, this country covers an area of 2 345 000 km². According to some documents available in 2008, it has a population of 66 514 506. The population density is 25 persons per km². The growth rate of the population in the country is 2.8% (2005), while it was 3.0% in 1975, 2.9% in 1985 and 3.5% in 1995.
  • There are nine speakers. There are many ways to say Bangi, -Bubangi, Bungi, Dzamba, Lobobangi, Rebu.
  •  The evolution of Bangi starts with its early ancestors. Even in the earliest days of a name there have been variations in that single name simply because surnames were infrequently written down that long ago.

Lingala

  • is a Bantu language spoken throughout the northwestern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and a large part of the Republic of the Congo, as well as to some degree in Angola and the Central African Republic. It has over 10 million speakers.
  •  It is thought that Lingala originated from Bobangi (Bangi), a language that has historically functioned as a trade language along the Congo River. With Belgian colonization of the area in the latter part of the 19th century, Bobangi spread into other areas. The colonial administration, needed a common language for missionary and administrative purposes, and Bobangi fit their purpose.
  • This common language was called Bangala, as distinct from Bobangi. Catholic missionaries attempted to standardize the language and expand its vocabulary. In the process, the language was renamed Lingala, a term that first appeared in 1903
