Robert J. Wheeler '52, a fast-skating wing with a blazing shot, was a first-team All-American selection in 1952. He still holds three Brown records: most goals game (8), season (36), and career (86) and is the number two career scorer in Brown history. A colorful and cocky player, Wheeler frequently got under the skin of the opposing fans. One night the Princeton fans were pouring it on Wheeler after his third goal had given Brown a 5-1 lead. While waiting for the next face-off, Wheeler slowly pointed his stick at the scoreboard and held it in that position, turning many of the catcalls into cheers. Wheeler was named to the All-American first team in 1952. An accomplished baseball player, Wheeler was one of Brown's best third basemen of the 1950's.
