1. Hetty shaft was sunk in the late 1870s and was one of four shafts at the Great Western Colliery (nprn 407677). Structures still surviving at the pit include the headframe and winder house (nprn 33711), the fan house and drift (nprn 301542), the shaft and the heapstead. Hetty Pit closed in 1983 and the site is currently the responsibility of Rhondda Heritage Park.

2. Most prominent surviving feature of Great Western Colliery. Engine and fan house with, in situ, the 1875 horizontal winding engine with 36-inch cylinders, heavily rebuilt 1906. Alleged to be converted from flat rope during rebuilding. Colliery closed 1983 and site now responsibility of Rhondda Heritage Park, although not normally accessible yet.
