AKB48 NOT to Hold Election this Year

AKB48 official website announce the group will not hold General Election in 2019.

AKB48 General Election (also known as Senbatsu Sousenkyo) was AKB48 group's most significant event since 2009, which the fans could vote for their favorite AKB48, SKE48, NMB48, HKT48, NGT48, STU48 members into single lineup. After the votes are submitted, the 80 members who received the most votes were announced on the day of the election. These top 16 members who got the most votes would be selected for AKB48's next single's title track, while the 1st place winner would serve the CENTER position. Generally, the fans and people would regard the General Election winner as the most popular member of the whole group.

The 1st General Election Winner (2009): Maeda Atsuko
The 2nd General Election Winner (2010): Oshima Yuko
The 3rd General Election Winner (2011): Maeda Atsuko
The 4th General Election Winner (2012): Oshima Yuko
The 5th General Election Winner (2013): Sashihara Rino
The 6th General Election Winner (2014): Watanabe Mayu
The 7th General Election Winner (2015): Sashihara Rino
The 8th General Election Winner (2016): Sashihara Rino
The 9th General Election Winner (2017): Sashihara Rino
The 10th General Election Winner (2018): Matsui Jurina

Note: AKB48's overseas sister groups have their own General Election.
