LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Times Community Newspapers (TCN; www.latimes.com/tcn) is introducing a new publication on January 30th, targeting Glendale News-Press and Burbank Leader readers with the Sunday News-Press & Leader. The paper will feature the local news, entertainment and sports coverage area residents have relied on for more than 100 years, along with more in-depth stories, neighborhood event information, photography and informed opinion. The Sunday edition will launch with a new front-page column by Ron Kaye, former editor of the Daily News, who has covered the San Fernando Valley for more than 25 years.

"Recent events, including our investigation of fraud in the affordable housing industry, reaffirm the importance of local, community-based reporting," said Dan Evans, Editor of the Glendale News-Press and Burbank Leader. "We've already ramped-up our coverage online and adding a Sunday print edition--particularly with the voice of a community advocate like Ron Kaye--means we'll be able to deepen our coverage and maintain our role as a watchdog, while also extending lifestyle and leisure features."

The Sunday News-Press & Leader will initially be delivered to more than 31,000 Los Angeles Times Sunday subscribers throughout Glendale, La Crescenta, Montrose and Burbank and will be available at area news racks. The Glendale News-Press will be published Tuesday through Saturday, retiring its Monday edition, and the Burbank Leader will continue its Wednesday and Saturday editions. Both publications provide daily coverage online at GlendaleNewsPress.com and BurbankLeader.com, and via The 818 Now blog (www.the818now.com).

"Sunday is the most popular day to catch up on current events and read the newspaper," said Scott Pompe, Senior Vice President of Advertising & Targeted Media for the Los Angeles Times Media Group. "By adding the Sunday News-Press & Leader we're giving local advertisers a distinct environment and more targeted approach to directly reach their Glendale and Burbank customer base."

Los Angeles Times Community Newspapers (TCN) include the Glendale News-Press, Burbank Leader, La Cañada Valley Sun, Huntington Beach Independent, Daily Pilot (Costa Mesa, Newport and Irvine) and Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot. TCN newspapers maintain separate editorial and business staffs from that of The Times, and focus exclusively on in-depth local coverage of their respective communities.
