Lecture by law school dean is first event in Yale collaboration with French universities

Robert C. Post, dean of the Law School and the Sol and Lillian Goldman Professor of Law, recently delivered a distinguished lecture at Université de Paris-Panthéon-Assas. His lecture, “Constitutional Protections for Academic Freedom” was the first co-hosted event by Yale and Panthéon–Assas under the terms of their new Agreement for Collaborative Activities.

The goal of the agreement, signed in June 2011, is to create an environment for long-term joint research, exchange. and programming activities between Yale, Panthéon–Assas and the École Normale Supérieure. 

“Yale’s engagement in Europe has never been stronger, thanks in part to collaborations with wonderful partners like Panthéon–Assas,” notes James Cohen, assistant secretary for the Yale Office of International Affairs, who helped broker the agreement. “Yale is particularly proud of its distinguished alumni in France, including U.S. Ambassador Charles Rivkin and Pantheon-Assas’ outgoing president, Louis Vogel.”

The Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the U.S. helped initiate this cooperative partnership — one founded on deep institutional ties and mutual investment from the partner schools.

“I am very pleased that this historic agreement will foster innovative interdisciplinary academic partnerships between Yale University and two leading French universities,” says Antonin Baudry, the French cultural counselor and permanent representative of French universities in the United States.

Professor Quentin Epron of Panthéon–Assas will be in residence at Yale for the 2012-2013 academic year to foster collaborations.
