VADODARA: The standing committee of Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Friday cleared a proposal to allow construction of 100 foot tall idol of Jain tirthankar Lord Parshwanath in Sama pond. This is the second such proposal cleared by the civic body this year.
The idol of Lord Parshwanath was proposed by the Jain International Organisation that will be funding the project. The organisation has proposed to come up with the idol after making an island in the pond.
They will do the landscaping of the island and illuminate it too.
The organisation had prepared a proposal for the idol and made a presentation to the civic body. It has also submitted photographs and maps regarding the project to the civic body last month. The civic body will, however, have to seek a nod from the district collector regarding the project.
Earlier this year, the VMC had cleared a proposal for a 108 foot tall Hanuman idol in Mahadev pond in Wadi. The idol was proposed by the Amit Education and Charitable Trust that has the blessings of BJP MLA Madhu Shrivastava. The legislator is known to be a devotee of Lord Hanuman.
