Black Bear Pictures’ upcoming mining drama “Gold,” starring Matthew McConaughey and directed by Stephen Gaghan, will launch foreign sales at next week’s European Film Market in Berlin.

Sierra/Affinity will oversee foreign sales of the project, which will begin shooting in June in New York, New Mexico and Thailand, while CAA handles domestic rights. Teddy Schwarzman’s Black Bear Pictures is fully financing.

The film, written by Patrick Massett and John Zinman, covers the story of the 1993 Bre-X Mineral Corp. mining scandal.

Producers are Schwarzman (“The Imitation Game”), Michael Nozik through his Hwy61 banner, Massett, Zinman and McConaughey. Paul Haggis will exec produce along with Richard Middleton.

McConaughey is also attached to IM Global’s Civil War drama “The Free State of Jones.” Gaghan previously directed “Syriana.”

McConaughey, Gaghan and Hwy61 are represented by CAA.
