Political situation

In February 2003 the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ceased to exist and was replaced by a loose federation called Serbia and Montenegro. It was intended that the federation would have a unicameral legislature and a president. In June 2006, however, Montenegro declared its independence and the federation was dissolved. Elections held before the dissolution of Yugoslavia appear at the Yugoslavia page. The Autonomous Region of Kosovo is under international administration and seems unlikely ever to be returned to Serbia.
