Community Agencies Provide Programs to P.V. Students

Paint Valley has been very fortunate to have the support of local community agencies. Several agencies have provided valuable prevention programs to our students, all at no cost the school district.

A special thanks to the Child Protection Center for the Body Safety Program, which addresses abuse prevention issues. This program was presented to all of our kindergarteners, first graders, and second graders.

Thanks also to the Ross County Coalition Against Domestic Violence for providing our third graders with character education presentations. The Coalition also conducts classroom presentations with our middle school students to increase awareness of violence.

The local health department has brought the ACE program, which promotes abstinence for our students, to our middle school students.

Our vistitors from these agencies conssistenly report that students and staff at Paint Valley are a pleasure to work with.Paint Valley is considered a warm, inviting school with cooperative staff and a great student population.

Biology Students Participate in Outdoor Park Programs

Hopewell Culture NHP and PVHS have been working together to provide students with outdoor educational experiences. Mrs. Daugherty's Biology classes have been going outdoors with the Park Rangers since 2002. A year long schedule of monthly outdoor activities is set up to reinforce the 10th grade Ohio Standards. Park Rangers, Myra Vic and Constance Jones, have been main stays of the program. The park director, Rick Perkins, and Mr.Goins have been very supportive of this co-op between the facilities. So far this year, the students have participated in a fall habitat walk, tree ID, and plant classification. They are looking forward to taking part in the regional insect, mammal, and bird surveys that the park will conduct in this area. All data collected by the students will be retained by the park system. Other planned activities include stream monitoring of Paint Creek, mussel collection, and winter and spring habitat walks. This cooperative program has encouraged students to be more aware of their surrounding environment and their impact on it.
