What are the Aims and objectives of the Asian
Women’s Fund? |

| Now, more than half a century has passed since World War Two ended, and we have achieved peace, prosperity, and social stability. However, we must never forget the pain and grief of the women who suffered physically and psychologically as “Comfort Women”. And it is also true that, today, many women are tormented by unreasonable violence and inhumane treatment, such as violence toward women under armed conflicts throughout the world, sexual abuses in work places and in communities, and domestic violence and child abuse in personal relationships, including those within families. We try to extend atonement and support to those who suffered as the former“Comfort Women” as well as to address contemporary issues concerning women’s human rights and women’s dignity. Because, the Asian Women’s Fund (AWF) is convinced that the violence against women and violation of women’s human rights, whether they are committed in the past or present, should not be forgotten, so that the history of “Comfort Women” shall never be repeated. The AWF aims to contribute to build a society in which peace, freedom and human rights are protected, and to realize friendship between Japan and other Asian countries and nations in the world, through such activities. |
