Giorgio Armani brings haute couture live to Internet |
Giorgio Armani has become the first designer to broadcast an haute couture fashion show live on the Internet. "Now through the democracy of the Internet, we can provide a front-row seat for everyone," the Italian designer said in a statement. The fashion show was broadcast to the world via Microsoft Corporation’s MSN and a Cingular cellular phones. And if you missed it you can still go to www.msn.com to watch a video of the whole show.
"I think the more fashion is available to more people the more exciting it becomes," Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of U.S. Vogue, told Reuters. "It's good for the business. It's good for the excitement. It's good for the glamour. I think it's a genius idea ... Fashion should be for everyone," she added.
Cate Blanchett and Katie Holmes watched the haute couture Armani Prive spring/summer 2007 collection from the front row. Cate Blanchett, who is nominated for an Oscar for her role in Notes On A Scandal, wasn't giving anything away about what she's going to wear on the big night. "I haven't decided yet," she told reporters. "But I think everything here is extraordinary."
It was the first time when haute couture show was broadcast live on the Internet but fashion shows presenting ready-to-wear collections have been broadcasted live before, including Frida Giannini’s women’s Gucci Cruise show that was broadcast live on the company’s Web site last year.
