Mori reassigned to 'Top Gun' Marine base

David Hicks's American military lawyer Major Michael Mori has been reassigned to a US Marines base in San Diego.

Major Mori's involvement in the Hicks case ended the moment his client left Guantanamo Bay at the weekend.

He will now be based at one of the largest military bases in the United States, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego.

Miramar is famous as the setting for the film Top Gun, as home to the Navy fighter pilots training school.

Major Mori will be a staff judge advocate, or legal adviser, to the commanders of the base.

Major Mori has been passed over for promotion twice since taking on the Hicks case and will be assessed again in October this year.

Meanwhile, Major Mori's former client is likely to receive his first visitors at Yatala Prison in Adelaide this weekend.

Hicks is still undergoing assessments regarding his health and security situation.
