NYR AT NYI
Rangers 5, New York Islanders 1

3/29/2006

It was a record-shattering night for the Blueshirts on Wednesday at the Nassau Coliseum. Jaromir Jagr passed Jean Ratelle, Henrik Lundqvist got his 30th win in net, and Petr Prucha tied another long-held team mark. Martin Straka was no slouch either, recording a natural hat trick in a 5-1 drubbing of the Islanders, which gave the Rangers more breathing room in the division race.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME
1. M. STRAKA – NYR
2. J. JAGR - NYR
3. M. ROZSIVAL - NYR

NOTES
* NHL scoring leader Jagr had four assists to reach 113 points on the season. His first assist, on a power-play goal by Prucha, broke Jean Ratelle's 34-year-old single-season scoring record of 109 points. Jagr had tied that mark at home against Buffalo on Monday night.

* Jagr extended his points streak to 10 games. He has nine goals and 12 assists during the run.

* Straka notched his first hat trick since Jan. 8, 2001, when he scored three times for Pittsburgh in a game against Washington.

* Lundqvist made 18 saves for his 30th win, breaking the Rangers' single-season rookie record of 29 held by "Sugar" Jim Henry and Johnny Bower.

* Rangers defenseman Darius Kasparaitis returned to the lineup after missing four games with a strained groin muscle.

* The Rangers' Colton Orr and the Islanders' Eric Godard fought early in the first period, moments after Godard and teammate Petteri Nokelainen hammered Kasparaitis into the end boards with simultaneous checks. Orr also fought John Erskine in the second period, with Erskine also being called for instigating and roughing.
