Calgary, AB – The Calgary Flames Hockey Club unveiled today their new Rbk Edge uniform system at Flames Central in the heart of downtown Calgary.

The uniforms maintain the Flaming C that has come to represent the team's identity but the shoulder patches now represent Alberta and Canada's heritage as the respective flags adorn the shoulders.

"We have pride in the city of Calgary, the province of Alberta and our country of Canada," said Flames president and CEO Ken King at the unveiling. "We're proud to be citizens of Alberta."

Flames players Matthew Lombardi and Dion Phaneuf were on hand to model the new uniforms and they were joined by 12 minor hockey players from southern Alberta as the Flames celebrate minor hockey this season.

The new uniform, designed by the Calgary Flames and developed by Reebok in conjunction with the NHL, features a jersey that embraces the Flames rich history and distinct western Canadian roots while utilizing technologically advanced fabrics and materials for performance.

“Among the enhancements, we are pleased to carry our National and Provincial flags on our home and road jerseys this season,” said King.

“As proud Canadians and proud Albertans, our desire is to display the identity of our country and province and carry them throughout North America and the world. Our jersey incorporates our strong history, the latest in technology, and is something our players and fans will be proud to wear.”

The red (home) jersey prominently showcases the black “C” that has identified the team since the 2003-04 season. The sleek new design also has vertical stripping through the sides of the jersey which flow into the pants. The red of the home uniform remains consistent with the “C of Red” for which Calgary has become famous for throughout the league.

The road uniform features the traditional red “C” on a white jersey. Both the home and road jerseys proudly present the Canadian and Alberta flags on the right and left shoulder respectively.

“I’m extremely impressed with the design of the entire uniform,” said Flames defenceman Dion Phaneuf who was on hand to assist with the unveiling at a packed Flames Central. "To be able to wear those flags on your shoulder is a great honour."

“I believe Rbk has taken technology to a whole new level by developing a uniform system that provides us with the opportunity for greater performance.”

"I think the guys on our team are very happy with the way the new jersey looks," added Lombardi.

Flames fans will see their team wear the new Rbk Edge uniform at the first pre-season game on Sunday, September 16th vs. the Florida Panthers at the Pengrowth Saddledome.

The new Rbk jersey can be seen at all Flames FanAttic locations on September 5th and will be on sale starting Friday, September 14th exclusively at all Flames FanAttic locations.
