Sergeant Robert Fraser

Character Sketch

 Robert Fraser

AGE:
He was 57 years old when he was murdered in April 1994.

HEIGHT:
6'2", at least according to Robert Fraser, although he cited that a person tends to shrink when they're dead. Most likely under six feet.

WEIGHT:
Unknown.

HAIR:
Sandy brown

EYES:
Blue

YEARS ON FORCE:
At least 35 years, according to the stars on the sleeve of his uniform.

PERSONAL PROFILE:
Robert Fraser was a legend in his own time, as was stated at his funeral, and was very well-respected by his peers. The only time his reputation ever came into question was when Gerrard planted monetary evidence against Robert Fraser who, at that point was dead and could not speak in his own defense. His son Benton cleared him of any wrongdoing.

He was a determined Mountie and a role model; he would pursue criminals anywhere through any kind of mess (a trait Benton apparently picked up). He believed in the letter of the law and, ultimately, this led to his own demise.

Because he spent a great deal of time away from home, his parents were entrusted with raising Benton from about the age of six onward.

After his demise, Fraser Sr. came back as a ghost not to haunt, but to advise his son. As a ghost, he's offered good advice, but then he's also offered weird advice (North).

FAMILY:
Wife, Caroline (deceased). Son, Benton (alive). Both his parents are deceased, although his Grandmother has come back as a ghost. It is believed that Uncle Tiberius (deceased) was from his side of the family, but we don't know for certain. He would like to have grandchildren, and doesn't pass up an opportunity to let his son know this.

LOVE LIFE:
On April 23, 1957, he won the heart of Caroline Pinsent, who later married him. Buck Frobisher was also vying for her attention, but apparently her love was for Robert. Caroline died at a young age (Her manner of death is addressed in the series finale episode, Call of the Wild). He must have loved her very deeply as he became depressed after her death. He stayed that way long enough to grow a beard and lose interest in life, but one morning, he shaved off the beard and picked up on life again.

FRIENDS:
Sgt. Duncan "Buck" Frobisher worked with him for many, many years. Gerrard was his friend, and this man ultimately betrayed Robert Fraser and had him killed. He is currently in a Canadian jail, hopefully doing a life sentence.

RELIGION:
None mentioned.

HOME:
For Fraser Sr., home seemed to be where the heart was, to quote the old saying. As a Mountie, he moved around quite frequently (Yukon, Northwest Territories, etc.), and was accustomed to living in primitive housing (such as an igloo) or Spartan barracks. He bequeathed his Yukon cabin to his son Benton. It was simple and plain, with a wood burning stove and books. Alas, Victoria Metcalf soaked it with gas and burned it to the ground as an act of revenge against Benton Fraser.

INJURIES:

  • He has mentioned once stepping in a bear trap.
  • He was shot - fatally.

ATTIRE:
Almost exclusively the red serge uniform, or a variation of the less formal RCMP uniform. We have not yet seen him in civilian attire.

MISCELLANEOUS:

  • He once had a moustache (as evidenced by photo at funeral).
  • Doesn't drink.
  • Knows Shakespeare (apparently well-read).
