Facts & Description
- World Headquarters of the American International Group, now usually referred to as AIG.
- This building was built for the Cities Service Company, a utility business. Cities Service later became CITGO. It sold the building to American International in 1976 when it moved its headquarters to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
- The building has an small but sumptuous enclosed glass observatory just under its spire on the 66th floor, as well as an open-air viewing platform just below it. However, both the platform and observatory are now closed to the public, and can only be accessed by AIG executives and employees.
- This building makes an appearance at the end of the movie "Spiderman", though it has been "moved" to Midtown for the scene.
- After the September 11th Terrorist Attacks, the American International building is now once again the tallest building in Lower Manhattan.
