The Bank of Korea has unveiled the design for the new ten-won coins.

The central bank said Thursday that the current brass coins will be replaced by copper-coated aluminum coins due to skyrocketing prices for making brass coins.

The new coins are smaller and lighter than the old ones. Its diameter is two-thirds smaller or 18 millimeters and it weighs less than one-third of the old coin at one-point-two grams.

The new coins will be introduced at the end of year, but people with old coins will still be able to use them.
