International Organization Information
- Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora is an international agreement between Governments. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival.
- Convention on Migratory Species of Wild Animals aims to conserve terrestrial, marine and avian migratory species throughout their range. It is an intergovernmental treaty, concluded under the aegis of the United Nations Environment Programme, concerned with the conservation of wildlife and habitats on a global scale.
- International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources
- UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre These programmes concentrate on species, forests, protected areas, marine, mountains and freshwaters; plus habitats affected by climate change such as polar regions. This organization also address the relationship between trade and the environment and the wider aspects of biodiversity assessment.
- Marine Information System Summary tables of marine statistics at national, regional and global levels.
- National Biodiversity Profiles This prototype information service, below, is based on a series of reports prepared by WCMC for the UNEP Global Environment Facility. This service gives simple biodiversity profiles for ten countries and helps to identify biodiversity elements for which a country has sole responsibility and where there are opportunities for collaboration.

Nongovernmental Sources
- EarthTrends: The Environmental Information Portal A cooperative project of the World Resources Institute, the World Bank, the UN Environment Programme, the UN Development Programme and others that provides a wide array of environmental data and information. The material is grouped into broad topics: coastal and marine ecosystems; water resources and freshwater ecosystems; climate and atmosphere; population, health and human well-being; economics, business and the environment; energy and resources; biodiversity and protected areas; agriculture and food; forests and grasslands; and environmental institutions and governance. After selecting a broad topic, the user has access to databases, datatables, country profiles, maps, and feature articles. The databases provide extensive data for onscreen viewing or download. Years of coverage vary. The data tables provide comparative data for countries of the world. The country profiles provide data, tables, and a brief narrative for individual countries.
- NatureServe--an Online Encyclopedia of Life provides "authoritative conservation information on than 50,000 plants, animals, and ecological communities of the United States and Canada. NatureServe provides in-depth information on rare and endangered species, but includes common plants and animals too. NatureServe is a product of the Association for Biodiversity Information in collaboration with the Natural Heritage Network." Search by scientific name, common name, or ecological community. The database entries contain information on the conservation status, distribution, life history, and conservation needs of individual species. Entries include bibliographic citations. The site also provides a glossary of terms that can be accessed with the site index.
- Pathfinder to Information on the Endangered Species Act of 1973--An annotated guide to sources of online and print information useful for researching the Endangered Species Act that also includes information state legislation and relevant international conventions.
