CASTRIES, St Lucia: Sir John Compton, Prime Minister of St Lucia has been admitted to a New York hospital from May 1, 2007. After much talk about Sir John's medical condition from the various talk shows and the public, there was no confirmed information coming from the Acting Prime Minister, Stephenson King.

Eventually, the Acting Prime Minister indicated that Sir John had suffered a series of minor strokes and is in stable condition. However, he still remains in hospital in New York for further tests and observation until he receives a clean bill of health from his doctors.

The Cabinet of Ministers authorised Lenard Montoute, deputy political leader of the ruling party and Minister of Social Transformation, to travel to New York to provide support to Lady Compton and her family. Montoute is back on island and he has indicated that Sir John had some difficulty with his speech and he had to be assisted by someone with his walking but, nevertheless, the Prime Minister has called on St Lucians to rally together for the sake of the nation during his absence.

Special Blend, a gospel group, has organized a prayer session at the Derek Walcott Square and Dr Keith Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada, has called on Grenadians and other Caribbean people to continue praying for Sir John.  Baldwin Spencer, Chairman of the OECS Authority and Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda has also called on St Lucians and other OECS nationals to continue praying for the speedy recovery of St Lucia's Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, Stephenson King, the Acting Prime Minister, has promised to keep the nation updated as to the medical condition of Sir John as more information becomes available.
