Traveller and Roma Collection

The Traveller and Roma Collection at the University of Limerick includes books, manuscripts, photographs, sound recordings and press cuttings. The primary historical focus of the collections is the period from the mid nineteenth to the mid twentieth century.

This Collection was inaugurated as cooperative project between the Library and Information Services and the HEA Traveller Initiative at the University of Limerick.  

The project was funded under the HEA scheme for targeted funding special initiatives.

For resources on  human rights, history, current affairs, education, health and welfare issues pertaining to Irish Travellers consult the Pavee Point  homepage , the homepage of the Irish Traveller Movement or the University of Limerick's Historical Centre for Traveller Studies.

For Genealogical information the website of the Romany & Traveller Family History Society is a useful starting-point for researchers.

For further information on the cultural history of Irish Travellers the Irish Travellers Collection at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown and the Tuam Traveller Museum, Choc Bhride, Tuam, County Galway are very useful resources.

 

Traveller and Roma Collection and the Library

The University of Limerick Traveller and Roma Collections are located in the Reading Room (GL2 013) on Floor 2 of the Glucksman Library Building. Material contained in the Traveller and Roma Collections is available for reference, general loan and through UL Library's Inter-Library Loan facility, for students from outside UL who wish to access the resources available. The Gypsy and Traveller Collections Reading Room includes study facilities and audio-visual facilities. Additional sociological material pertaining to Irish Travellers and Roma is housed in the Library's main book and journal collection.

The Traveller and Roma Collections are included in the Library Catalogue.

This Study Room is open from 9.00 am - 4.45pm, Monday to Friday (GL2 013).This Study Room is open to all UL students.
