Steele's RNC campaign website goes live

Former Lt. Gov. Michael Steele (R-Prince George's County), a candidate for chairman of the Republican National Committee, launched his campaign website over the weekend.

SteeleforChairman.com reflects Steele's campaign message of repairing the party brand, and places an emphasis on both grassroots politicking and technology.

Users can send Steele their ideas via text message or even web video. "The Case for Michael Steele" lays out Steele's resume and plans for the party.

"After two consecutive election disasters, the Republican Party will not succeed by simply doing the same things over again," the website says, before highlighting Steele's past leadership positions. "Now in his race for RNC chair Lt. Governor Steele has published a detailed plan that outlines how he will reorganize the RNC: to put members and grassroots back in charge, attract the best and brightest professionals and start winning again for Republicans across the country."

The 168 members of the RNC will select the next RNC chair in January.

Other candidates said to be interested in the position include the current RNC Chair Mike Duncan, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), Florida Republican Party Chair Jim Greer, Chip Saltsman, who managed Mike Huckabee's presidential campaign, former RNC official Chuck Yob and former U.S. Rep. Jim Nussle (R-Iowa), who currently serves as the director of the Office of Management and Budget in the White House.

Michigan Republican Party Chair Saul Anuzis has officially announced his bid and South Carolina Republican Party Chair Katon Dawson announced his candidacy Monday, according to Politico.

Steele was the first African

Steele was the first African American to serve in a Maryland state-wide office and the first Republican lieutenant governor in the state since the position was created in 1970. At the time he was the highest-ranking elected African American Republican in the United States.

Steele ran for a Maryland

Steele ran for a Maryland United States Senate seat being vacated by retiring senator Paul Sarbanes, but he lost the 2006 election to Democratic Congressman Ben Cardin. In November 2008, the Washington Times reported Steele as a candidate for chairmanship of the Republican National Committee in January 2009.

Despite differences in age,

Despite differences in age, background and region, all six candidates vying to be the next chairman of the Republican National Committee agreed on almost everything at today's candidate forum here.

They want lower taxes and less government. They want the party to do a better job of reaching out to minorities. They argue the GOP should pay more attention to the grassroots. They believe it needs to catch up to the Democrats when it comes to technology. They're waiting for Obama to overreach. And they responded -- every single one of them -- that Ronald Reagan is their favorite Republican president. (No one said Lincoln).

there are others

There are other candidates besides Mike Duncan.

As I mentioned, a worker is needed. One who understands what it takes to stick to the tough task of cleaning out the RNC of all of the Hangers on. Steele is being handled by 2 of the biggest losers in consulting- Blaise Hazlewood and Curt Anderson. These 2 brought us the 2006 Senate debacle. What makes anyone think that change can occur when the consultants remain the same. It takes more than a spokesman to change the culture of losing at the RNC. Steelehas become a talking head (and a good one) . But we need a thorough house keeping and he would have no idea where to start!

Steele 4 change

I understand why people would not want Steele, but he is clearly the best person for the job. How many of you think Duncan has done a good job, or that Newt will do any better? I'm hoping that everyone sees Steele is the clear choice for chairman!

Steele for RNC?

Steele is so critical of the RNC and the Party in general for its minority outreach ask him: How many African American candidates did he recruit to run in Maryland while he was Chairman? How many African Americans did he employ on his staff as Lt.Governor? How many African Americans are on staff at GOPAC? Finally, if he is so critical of the RNC's minority outreach, how does he explain his own dismal performance in his 2006 Senate race where he received less than 15% of the black vote.

Mr. Steele makes for an attractive "Spokesmodel" the party needs a worker/tactician as Chairman. Whereas, Mr. Steele, is a product of a few smart consultants angling for RNC contracts. Instead of running a national campaign for RNC Chairman he should be a "National Republican" and be in Minnesota helping Norm Coleman or Georgia working to elect Saxby Chambliss!

Steele

Guy's unemployed. He wants to do something but his politics are whacked. Dude was named a Lt. Governor and served for 1 term. That hardly qualifies anyone for the RNC. Putting him in that position would make him look like an uncle tom and the RNC more racist than they are.

OOoohhhh, a website. This

OOoohhhh, a website.

This loser can't even base his campaign in his home state. It just proved this is not about Party or responsibility - it's about damaged ego repair.
