Fabulous

Obviously the last post by "Anonymous" is ridiculous and can only be the result of some agenda he has. Deer Valley consistently ranks amongst the top ski resorts in North America. Deer Valley is "the" reason that Utah skiing took off. I have lived in Salt Lake City my entire life and have skied at every resort in Utah and throughout North America (mostly the West) competitively. There was basically no skiing in Utah prior to Deer Valley and the reason Park City, The Canyons, Alta and Snowbird even hit the map is because Deer Valley came along and made a top notch ski resort that could attract skiers away from Colorado. Deer Valley has the widest variety of trails for all skiers (and when us experts get tired at the end of the day). It has almost a lot more high speed lifts than any other mountain in Utah. It has twice the snow-making equipment as any other resort in Utah and it has three times the number of grooming equipment (and they do groom 3x as much as any other mountain in Utah). Obviously, the previous guy who posted has not really been to Deer Valley as it takes at least a couple of days to ski all their peaks and someone who claims to have gone "today" but wouldn't rank it in the top 5 in Utah has clearly never even been there (or to the other resorts in Utah), or he has an agenda. That is precisely why his post is "anonymous". The facts are the facts and Deer Valley simply has more of everything and is super-high end. It is the only resort in Utah where the staff are actually abundant, helpful, and very friendly. The balloting for Deer Valley winning by a landslide over all other resorts in North America says it all. Everyone who has actually skied all over North America knows this and knows that Deer Valley is one of the best kept secrets around. Incidentally, I live closer to Alta than anything else, but am willing to travel the 40 minutes to get to Deer Valley everytime the snow falls (and certainly when it doesn't as they actually make tons of snow here and groom it right). Deer Valley is also the only major resort in Utah that does not allow snowboarders. That says a lot too about how serious Deer Valley is about high-end skiing. Snowboarders typically ruin an entire ski day if you are a serious skier. For Deer Valley to forego that revenue from snowboarders (about half/half skiers/snowboarders these days) ought to tell you that Deer Valley is the only serious SKI mountain in Utah.

Hmmm..why is Kicking Horse not in the top 30! This would be my #1.

Telluride and Deer Valley are the two best in No America. If not world!

I'm always up for ideas on new places to ski. It would be ignorant to say that Whistler/Blackcomb or Aspen Snowmass (my two favorites) is better than this place. Every seasoned skier or boarder knows that it's a gamble when you plan a trip to go skiing. You never know what the weather is gonna do. Whistler/Blackcomb has been rated number one on other websites but the powder was way better in Aspen the last time I went. I like the sound of Deer Valley also because of what Mr. Lathrope mentioned about the grooming. I am in no way an expert skier, in fact it doesn't even snow where I live (South Georgia). I just have a drive to ski the best ski resorts in North America and I now have Deer Valley in my sights for Spring Break.

I completely agree with Mr. Lathrope in his assessment of Deer Valley. To me, Deer Valley is the ski resort of the future, where amazing terrain and customer service blend to make the perfect ski vacation. I am willing to drive up to Deer Valley because of the excellent experience I have every single day I ski. In addition, as Deer Valley sells out, I have never waited in a line for over fifteen minutes, EVEN DURING CHRISTMAS! All in all, Deer Valley provides the atmosphere necessary to make it an excellent ski resort which should be ranked number one in North America every year in Ski Mag.
I've always loved to hear what others think. Personally I have a more focused view of the perfect ski location. So I made my own list. I'd like to know what others think: http://travelcompanionblog.wordpress.com/

Newly open terrain this season, and a new lift on the Bear Creek side of Gold Hill add tremendous "back country" skiing to an already great area. Crowds are virtually non-existent, so be ready to get lots of vertical.

Went there last spring. Totally underwhelmed. The food was great, but I was there to ski!
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 5 days ago
Love this mountain. Great skiing, alpine slide, lodge and food
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 5 days ago
Outstanding diversity of terrain, great snow and no lines
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 5 days ago
Love the terrain. Lots to choose from. A bit confusing in the layout, but well worth it. Plenty of mountain to ski.
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 5 days ago
Nice mountain, cute town. Lots of great skiing.
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 5 days ago
a hidden gem, not real far from bozeman airport, no crowds, fantastic skiing, very reasonably priced

We have a week at Marriott's Mountainside every year and have been coming here for over 10 years. Great mountain options and lifts. Family's would love the variety as well.

Deer Valley has great lifts, trees, views of the Jordanelle Lake, and fantastic food. I am not surprised it rated #1.

GIVE ME A BREAK, WHAT KIND OF CREDIBILITY CAN YOU GET WITH A SURVEY PUTTING DEER VALLEY AT THE TOP? tOO BAD YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVEN'T TAKEN THE TIME TO SKI THERE, SAME ON YOU
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 4 days ago
I don't even know where to start how wrong Deer Valley is as the number 1 pick. I've been there once and I won't be back. Isn't this where the filmed: www.lostpeopleofmountainvillage.com/ I'm pretty sure it is and accurate. Lord, how much did they pay you?
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 4 days ago
Is this a photo of a little boy peeing on a fake tree?
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 4 days ago
Vail has it all. Great grooming, fabulous terrain, fantastic lifts & unsurpassed size. It's only problem is that a visit there will put you in the poor house.
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 4 days ago
Be prepared for a lot of rain.
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 4 days ago
this place is number 1, Deer valley is cool, but whistler has some of the best access to extreme terrain, better night life, and huge area. Whistler is the place to be. I'll be there 3rd week of Feb.
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 4 days ago
Winter Park holds a wonderful place in my heart. I learned to ski there from a fantastic ski school and have gone back every year ever since.
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 4 days ago
SKI is a magazine for posers, not skiers. Skiing magazine has it right - Whistler is #1 and beyond compare. I have skied both Vail and Deer Valley and was bored. But it your idea is skiing is a couple hours on groomers and then going shopping, maybe they have it right.
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 4 days ago
Maybe the Steamboat base area is 2nd rate, but the snow and tree skiing is amazing.
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 4 days ago
Deer Valley is def number one. I totally agree 100%. No resort even comes close to being such a full service destination. Between Deer Valleys perfection and Park Citys nightlife and fine dining options down the road, this is a well deserved number one!!!!! The newly expanded terrain really has made amazing skiing for ALL levels. Beaver creek has ALONG way to go to become Deer Valley. ALONG way to go.
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 4 days ago
Vail is the most overrated ski area in NA. Whistler has horrible weather. Utah really is the best!
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 4 days ago
Park City really is the best ski town in America. Sundance could be anywhere and they pick Park City because it has so much to offer besides amazing skiing! The best ski town and the most fun! Its also pretty close to Salt Lake City and its international airport. I only wish Telluride were closer to a major aiport that place is the most beautiful in NA hands down
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 3 days ago
jackson and bigsky/moonlight should be higher in this ranking for sure
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 3 days ago
I LOVE TELLURIDE!
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 2 days ago
Yeah, i will give Winter Park some props...mainly because Mary Jane has some awesome bump runs! Oh and when they're soft...its like a little slice of heaven.
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 2 days ago
Telluride is the place to be! Went there last year with my summer sisters and now they are winter sisters too! Summers in Lake George and winters in Telluride- Life is Good!
Anonymouswrote 19 weeks 1 day ago
If you get weather like this at Whistler, you should head for Las Vegas right after and pick up your winnings. We had 20 minutes of sunshine in four days and rain at the base, which augurs poorly for conditions at the Olympics in February.

Truly beautiful, terrain for begginers and experts!

Whitefish Mountain Resort just announced they were discontinuing both their Super Pipe and Nordic Skiing for the 2008/09 season--most disappointing
Anonymouswrote 18 weeks 6 days ago
Horrible bumps, no big mountain skiing. Great for beginners!
Anonymouswrote 18 weeks 6 days ago
Aspen is a beautiful place to go with GREAT skiing. One catch...the locals. I don't ski there anymore. I can't stand them.
Anonymouswrote 18 weeks 6 days ago
Gret skiing. Good luck putting up with the locals.
Anonymouswrote 18 weeks 6 days ago
Colorado is over-rated. Utah, Wyoming, Montana, British Columbia and California is where it's at. And I've skied them ALL!
Anonymouswrote 18 weeks 6 days ago
I agree, Colorado is WAY over-rated
Anonymouswrote 18 weeks 6 days ago
Eldora is totally under-rated
Anonymouswrote 18 weeks 6 days ago
If you can afford it, Colorado has some GREAT skiing. Utah, California, Montana and Wyoming have AWESOME skiing as well, but not quite as expensive (especially for family vacations)
Anonymouswrote 18 weeks 5 days ago
I'm guessing none of you have the kahones to ski the East? Jeff....Sugarloafer since 1977

Our motto for Whistler is "Whistler never disappoints". Sometimes this is challenged - this is the Pacific Northwest and we get a lot of big weather (heard of the "Pineapple Express?) !! :) But even on the worst weather days (warm in village/wet) we always find great conditions somewhere - if you go high enough, pick the right exposure, etc. Flat night is a problem on most mountains in the north - Whistler is no exception. The right goggles are really really key. I ski the Rockies a lot too, but the reason I spend most of the season at Whistler is being the terrain is incredible, the base is deep, the powder frequent, and the denser snow allows you to ski anything (visit in the summer and you will see all the rocky cliffs you are skiing in the winter!).
Anonymouswrote 17 weeks 6 days ago
Jackson Hole #14? Now that is a joke! The best mountain for the money in the Rockies! And a new tram this year.
Anonymouswrote 17 weeks 2 days ago
Blackcomb/Whistler proves itself every year. All the good things you hear are true!!! Skiied all over the world and haven't seen anything that is better. Something for everyone. Steep and deep! EAGLEEYE
Anonymouswrote 16 weeks 6 days ago
Telluride should be number #1, who wants to go to Utah anyway?
Anonymouswrote 16 weeks 5 days ago
I don't know where you get off saying Deer Valley isn't number one. The terrain, food, and customer service is amazing. Deer Valley should always stay the hidden gem it is, devoid of snowboarders and people who don't enjoy having a good time on the mountain.
Anonymouswrote 16 weeks 2 days ago
This Resort is sleek and sexy. I was there today, looks amazing. It will be a great season.
Anonymouswrote 16 weeks 2 days ago
Mitt Romney's vacation house is a must see if you are at Deer Valley. Why would he want to be president if he had to downgrade to the White House?
