Historical Photographs of BC and the Yukon
A collection of more than 250,000 black and white negatives and prints.
The online Historical Photographs Database provides access to approximately 15,000 images; this number continues to grow as more images are scanned and added to the website. A card index in the Special Collections Department Reading Room, known as The Historical Photographs Subject Index, provides access to the entire VPL historical photograph collection of over 87,000 accessioned photographs. Prints of some of the images may be viewed in the 131 albums of display prints in the public area. The majority of the images, however, are available for viewing as negatives only.
