Although the Grand Bell Awards still remain the most prestigious in Korea, their biggest rival have always been the 청룡영화상 (Blue Dragon Awards). The Blue Dragon Awards have reached their 26th edition, handing the first awards in 1963. Back then couple Shin Sung-Il and Eom Aeng-Ran respectively won Most Popular Actor and Actress, and Kim Soo-Yong's 혈맥 (Blood Linkage) took home 6 Awards.
That film joins two others [잉여인간 (The Extra Mortals) - Yoo Hyun-Mok (1964); 서편제 (Sopyonje) - Im Kwon-Taek (1993)] as the most awarded film ever at the Awards, but things could change this year. In 2004, Kang Je-Gyu's 태극기 휘날리며 (Taegukgi) took home 4 awards.

No love for Kim Ki Duk.Is it true Korean critics dont like his films?Or was The Bow just not that good?I recently ordered it so I guess I'll find out eventually.
The Bow just isn't that good. Though it should have gotten some recognition in Art Direction or Score.
Here's hoping Sympathy For Lady Vengeance sweeps in all of it's noms.
I actually like The Bow quite a lot. It's repetitive of his earlier films but still quite good in its own right and it makes an interesting set with 3 Iron, Spring Summer and Samaritan Girl.
Korean critics and Kim Ki-Duk... not a match made in heaven. ^_^
There's a few who generally like him, but the large majority either detests him (female critics) or ignores him (most mainstream critics).
He's 'that guy who makes films getting all those awards' and people on the streets know his name, but they actually don't go see his films.
Wow those winners are all over the map. The only ones they got even remotely right were Sympathy For Lady Vengeance as Best Film and Lee Young-Ae as Best Actress. I'm pretty shocked Welcome To Dongmakgol was shut out of all the major categories. And I must now see You Are My Sunshine to see if it even comes close to directing mastery on display in The President's Last Bang and especially Sympathy For Lady Vengeance.
the reason why Park Chan-Wook did not win best director is beyond me... I think Lee Young Ae truly deserves that award... So i'm a very surprised why some (very few they say) people did not appreciate her acting there..
