Often described as one of the loveliest resorts in England, Malvern is situated at the south-western corner of Worcestershire, almost in the centre of England. It has been blessed by nature with superb scenery, invigorating air and a wonderful range of hills, the source of the famous Malvern Water.

The pure water from the Malvern hills was first bottled about 1622, but appreciated well before that and long before Queen Elizabeth I granted the Holy Well to the Lord of the Manor.

Most Spa towns owe their existence to water full of natural chemicals, with a most "distinctive" taste and smell. Malvern is different, famous for what its water does not contain.

In 1756, following the publishing of his book "Experiments & observations on the Malvern Waters", Dr John Wall, concluded in a famous quote ..."The Malvern water says Dr John Wall is famous for containing just nothing at all"...!

Malvern became known as a curative centre in 1757, after Dr Wall published his findings. During the 1840's two other doctors, Wilson and Gully, each created his own establishment, treating well-to-do sufferers from self-indulgence by dieting, wrapping in wet sheets, water-drinking and walks on the hills.

The Malvern cold water cure, in the context of Victorian medicine, would appear to have helped many people, including Charles Darwin and Florence Nightingale.

The Chairman of the BSF Medical Advisory Committee, Dr John Winsor Harcup, has written a great little book "The Malvern Water Cure" - you'll enjoy reading what people put up with when they undertook the Cold Water Cure!

Malvern is also famous for its association with Sir Edward Elgar, who lived and worked in Malvern for most of his life. Elgar drew inspiration from the hills and the countryside around, and today visitors can follow the beautiful Elgar Route. Earlier this year, The Enigma Fountain was unveiled by HRH The Duke of York.

Visit and enjoy this special Spa Town. For the energetic there are miles of footpaths, many incorporate some of the sixty springs, spouts and fountains to be found around the hills.

Art and culture are not forgotten with the excellent Malvern Theatres and there are few times in the year without cultural activity in Malvern
