Library Services

The Winnipeg Public Library operates 20 branches serving the citizens of Winnipeg. Books are available in numerous languages and there is an Aboriginal collection. The library offers numerous services and programs, including video rentals, children’s programming and reading programs. CDs, CD-ROMs, cassettes, videos and computer and free Internet access are also available.

A library card is required to take books and other material from the library. Library cards are free of charge to all residents of Winnipeg and can be obtained at any branch with proper identification that displays your current address. Parents or guardians of children and young adults 17 years and under must sign their children’s library membership application.

Visit the library Web site at Winnipeg.ca for a complete listing of available services and locations or call 986.6432 for branch locations and hours of operation.

Millennium Library

Winnipeg’s Millennium Library reopened in the Fall of 2005. The library has been expanded and redeveloped into a contemporary central branch, near the MTS Centre and Cityplace. Millennium Library has many great features on each floor, including special spaces for teens and kids, skilled staff to help with questions, many resources to use for research or for pleasure reading. It is also home to an Aboriginal reading-in-the-round area and enhanced services and collections for the multicultural and Aboriginal communities.
