GMA sues TV-5 for ownership ‘breach’

BROADCAST GIANT GMA Network, Inc. has sued the owners of rival TV-5 for allegedly violating the constitutional limit on foreign ownership, saying it had lost revenues due to unfair competition.

In a statement yesterday, GMA said it had filed the suit together with Citynet and ZOE Broadcasting against Cojuangco-led ABC-5, MPB Primedia, Inc. and Malaysian company Media Prima Berhad for allegedly entering into an unlawful block time deal.

The company accused MPB Primedia, which now controls ABC-5’s operations by buying the network’s air time, as a mere dummy of the Malaysian media company.
