Hamas rips U.N. for teaching the Holocaust

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Hamas condemned the United Nations for switching to a new textbook for Gaza schoolchildren that includes a chapter on the Holocaust.

In an open letter sent Sunday to the head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, which runs schools for 200,000 Gazan children, Hamas called the systematic murder of Jews during the Holocaust "a lie invented by the Zionists" and said it would "refuse to let our children study" it.

The curriculum changes would affect eighth-graders.

A UNRWA spokesman told Reuters that the Holocaust was not part of the current curriculum. He would not comment on any possible changes.

On Monday, Hamas religious leader Younis al-Astal called the teaching of the Holocaust to Palestinian children a "war crime" and the "marketing a lie and spreading it," the Associated Press reported.

And THIS is the reason why Israel cannot, should not, and will not negotiate with Hamas - not now, not ever.  Let’s “forget them better still” - until they unleash the Qassems.  Then let’s remember them with a very heavy hand.  Apparently the last incursion into Gaza wasn’t enough for them.  They’re gluttons for punishment, so let’s feed them.

Forgetting them would be a terrible mistake.  Vanquishing would be best.  Let their way be lost forever.

I agree with you Cheryl! I cannot understand why it’s OK for Hamas to bomb and kills, and its for political freedom, Israel strikes back and it’s called a massacre! Israel should tell the world to stay out of their business, or stop Hamas themselves! The Western world, especially Europe, is more problem than solution!! EUROPE,stay out of Israel’s business!!!!OXNIN

Will, I wasn’t exactly recommending we forget them (just quoting a song phrase) - only that we forget all talk about negotiating with them.  Unfortunately, they only understand violence, and I agree with you that the only way Israel can deal with them is to crush them.  It saddens me that even something as obvious as Hamas’ refusal to allow Holocaust-themed education to be taught in Gaza is still not clear enough to most people that Hamas has no interest in negotiating with Israel.  Israel would do well to ignore the world’s pressure to “talk” to these beasts.

Wow, a history book that teaches history. What a shock. Hamas will have one less tool to indoctrinate their youth to hate.

Hamas doesn’t want the truth about the Holocaust taught to their rabble because 1. they want to claim they were the only victims of genocide in the history of the world (even though they weren’t victims of genocide in the least); 2. because they’re jealous that the Nazis thought of it before they did (at least in the highly organized sense); and, 3. tin horn gods like them always need to control the flow of information to their servants.
I’m waiting for Chris Smith to log on to state the “Gaza slaughter” was worse than the Holocaust… C’mon, Chris, don’t disappoint!

What wasn’t mentioned in the article was the following statement from another Hamas leader:

“Hamas’s official spokesman in Gaza, Sami Abu Zuhri, did not say the Holocaust was a ‘lie,’ but told Reuters that Hamas opposes “forcing the issue of the so-called Holocaust onto the syllabus, because it aims to reinforce acceptance of the occupation of Palestinian land.”

Besides, is the refusal to teach the Jewish Holocaust to Palestinian children and different than the failure to teach the Nakba to Jewish children?

The “nakba” is merely a point of view over an historical fact, the reformation of Israel.  That’s different from refusing to teach children about the largest genocide in history, just because you don’t like the politics it implies.  The Palestinian penchant for sticking their heads in the sand keeps them from seeing what it looks like to constantly shoot oneself in the foot (in their case, emptying the entire gun into their collective foot).
Hamas’ refusal to educate their children on this issue exemplifies the saying, “You can bring a fool to knowledge, but you cannot make him think.”

Mr. Katz, Do you realize how stupid your comment, “The “nakba” is merely a point of view over an historical fact, the reformation of Israel.” makes you appear here?  The Nakba is HISTORICAL FACT that is as well documented as much of the Jewish Holocaust is well documented.  The Nakba is hardly a mere point of view.  As uncomfortable that the slaughter and dispossession of 800,000 innocent people may make you, it is inexcusable for you to minimize their suffering great and loss by declaring that event as “merely a point of view”.  What you have done is as despicable as what a Holocaust denier or minimizer does.
