In 1969, 182 years after the founding of the College, Franklin & Marshall accepted its first class of women. That fall, approximately 125 women, including 82 matriculating "freshwomen," joined the 1,850 enrolled male students.

In the past forty years, women have made an impressive impact in all areas of the life of the College, receiving recognition for their outstanding academic, athletic, artistic, social, and cultural work.

The Franklin & Marshall Magazine article, Four Decades and Counting, traces the College's 40 years of coeducation through interviews with five Williamson Medalists.

Throughout the 2009-10 academic year, F&M will commemorate the impact that women have made on the life of Franklin & Marshall College.
