Peaberry CoffeePeaberry Coffee
Coffee cherries containing just one bean are referred to as 'Peaberries'. Smaller but more flavourful.

Peaberry coffee beans get their name from how they grow.

Coffee trees produce red or purple fruits (drupes) which typically contain two seeds. These seeds are coffee beans. When harvesting coffee cherries, 5 to 10% of cherries will only contain one bean, whereas all other cherries contain two. Coffee cherries containing just one bean are referred to as Peaberries.

Peaberry coffee beans are much smaller in size and twice as robust in flavor. Because the seed inside the cherry is much smaller, the acidity is also higher then in regular Arabica beans. In most coffee bean sorting facilities around the world, Peaberry coffee beans are separated from the larger cherries. In some cases Peaberries are bagged and sent to be roasted as 'pecialty peaberry coffee'. In the past, most peaberries were discarded, as coffee farmers considered them inferior to larger Arabica beans.

In coffee producing countries, Arabica coffee is not widely enjoyed by locals. Arabica beans are hard to grow. Coffee farmers selling through Fair Trade organizations earn just enough money to keep their plantations alive. Indulging in the fruits of their labor is simply not affordable. Therefore, the peaberry went unnoticed.

Only in the last few years has peaberry coffee gotten the attention of importing nations.

There are many Peaberries on the market today. If you're a java lover, and have experience cupping exceptional coffees, the Peaberry Sampler from Fresh Coffee Now offers connoisseurs a variety of Peaberry coffees from around the world.

Keep in mind the nature of the peaberry, it's smaller and has a higher concentration of flavor. Expect your favorite coffees, in Peaberry form, to be a tantalizing experience.

Kenyan coffee is known for its perfect balance and richness. Its peaberry holds true to these characteristics, yet it has even more flavor and complexity. A mighty cup indeed.

Tanzanian Peaberry coffee is considered the ‘tangiest’ cup of African coffee. With a'zing' in its sip, this peaberry is a wonderful morning cup and a delightful after dinner drink complimented by creamy liquor.

Brazilian Peaberry

The Brazilian Peaberry is also lovely, with a cultured flavor and dark richness. The Brazilian enjoys tremendous popularity.
